The retirement fund scheme in India which provides benefits to salaried people is known as Employees Provident Fund (EPF) or Provident Fund (PF). Under this scheme the employer and employee both contributes equally. Now Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has launched an online passbook facility known as EPF e-Passbook for the EPF account holders by which they can check the status of their account.

One can easily get all details of your EPF Balance in this EPF e-Passbook online. You can check your EPF status anytime you want.

Register Online for EPFO e-Passbook at last of this Page

To get this facility of e-Passbook EPF one has to register compulsorily here. While registration you have to provide all the following details.

1. Mobile Number
2. You have to select one of the following documents to fill your details according to it. These document involve PAN Number, Aadhar (UID), NPR (National Population Register), Bank Account Number, Voter ID Card, Driving License, Passport Number, Ration Card Number.
3. Depending upon selection of document you have to provide number of document.
4. Name as on document
5. Email ID
6. Write the words as you see in image and click GET PIN.

You will get a 4 digit pin on your mobile fill it and submit. After submitting the form you will get confirmation on your mobile. Hence it completes the registration process. Now you can login in member portal to check your EPF Status Online.

Generate EPF e-Passbook Online

You can log in here by selecting the document you have chosen during registration and filling document number and mobile number.

After login you will see screen where you can alter your details by clicking on your name. You can download your Epassbook from this page. When you will click on Download E Passbook you have to select the state, After that you have to select PF office in that State. If you don’t know the your office you can find it here.

Now enter your EPF account Number and your name which should be same as in records of EPFO. Fill the Captcha and click GET PIN. You will receive Pin on your mobile enter the pin and click GET DETAIL. Here you can download PDF epassbook.

Only if your EPF e-Passbook is available you can download it, otherwise a below message will appear-

 “ Your e-passbook not available”. To get the details of your EPF account click on the link “Send request to get your e-passbook”

Now click on the link and you will see the following message

“Your e-Passbook request has been accepted. You shall be intimated on SMS when the same is available. You can check back after 3 days.”

EPFO has launched this facility but all the members are unable to use it as it is available for those only where the employer has uploaded E Challan and return.

Some Points to keep in mind regarding EPF e-Passbook

1.     One Mobile can be used for one registration. One can edit mobile number later on.
2.     One can see only one EPF account under one establishment.
3.     You can transfer your old EPF account to new one.
4.     You can not see settled and inoperative accounts.
5.     You can register by different ID proofs and mobile numbers to check different accounts.

Although it is a great effort but its success depends on efficiency of Provident Fund Office in handling and managing their website and data.

One can gain the information about Employees Provident Fund Status through two options mainly

• EPF Claim Status online
• EPF status offline

Any worker in any private or public establishment whose gross income per month exceed Rs. 6,500 has the option to join Employee Provident Fund Scheme. The employee can join the EPF scheme with approval of employer. He or She can join EPFO from the first day of his/her working in any firm which is registered under EPF and MP act 1952.

EPF Status Online

One can know the EPF claim status online by the filling the enquiry form on the website. It does not matter from where the account is maintained. One has to fill some necessary information online to check EPF status online. The procedure for checking EPF Online Status has been described below.

1. Visit website of Employee Provident Fund to check EPF Balance.  Log-on into it.

2. Select your area of EPF Office.

3. Enter region code and office code which are mandatory.

4. Enter the 7 digit establishment code of in the 3^rd box

5. Enter the establishment code extension if any.

6. Enter the 7 digit account number.

7. Click on submit.

This EPF Status Online query feature is not available in all regions and states. Only few Large states have this online Status query form available on their website. Other states website does not have a EPF Status Online query option.

EPF Claim Status Offline

To know the EPF Status Offline one has to visit Employee Provident Fund The person visit the regional office where the account is maintained. One may Download Provident Fund Forms and submit them at the EPF office. The form has to be filled in the same procedure as explained above. One has to mention reference number also which is created automatically when submitting form online.

One other way to EPF Status Enquiry is to download form online and submit it manually at your regional PF office. To check EPF Transfer Status of Form-13 transfer application you have to approach the concerned PF Office.

EPF balance can be accessed from all PF Regional Offices. EPF India website has list of all the regional offices. The EPF India website does not provide link to know the EPF balance update but some regional websites provide such facility. To know Employee Provident Fund Balance, you have to visit the Regional Office link. So you can know your EPF Balance from the website which provides such link otherwise you have to visit Concerned PF Office and submit form for it manually.

Access the list of Regional Provident Fund Offices and Websites. Now visit your regional office link and check if your state website provides such service. If yes then you have to follow following steps to check your EPF Balance Online.

1. Visit the online tool below and click “Click here to know the balance“.

2. Choose the EPF Office and Region from where your firm is registered.

3. Enter the establishment code and establishment extension code if any and employee account number.

4. Enter your Name and Mobile Number

5. Check on “I Agree” and click submit to find balance.

If you have filled all details properly you will get your the EPF account balance. Government has not laid down any rules for EPF organization to provide you with EPF balance, nor there is any prescribed format. EPFO sends Annual Account Statement to the Employee at their working address every year, so one can calculate on the basis of that statement also.

Download PF Form 13: Now you can download new revised EPF Form 13 to transfer your Provident Fund Account from previous employer to your current employer covered under the EPF & MP Act 1952 scheme.

Download EPF Form 14: Form 14 is used to apply for financing a life insurance policy from your Provident Fund Accumulations.

Download PF Withdrawal Form 19: This EPF Withdrawal Forms 19 is used to withdraw all your Provident Fund Accumulations after leaving your job or on retirement, might be termination and or superannuation. In no case ever, your PF can be stopped for withdrawal.

Form 10-C Download – Provident Fund Form 10-C is submitted mostly along with F-19/20 for settlement of withdrawal benefit either under old Family Pension Fund (FPF) or new Employees’ Pension Scheme EPS 95 or also for issuance of Scheme certificate for retention of membership (only in case you are less than 58 years old).

PF Form 10-D Download – Pension Form 10-D (as the name suggests) is used for getting pension either by the first claimant i.e. self-member or his/her widow/widower or orphan or by the nominee; as the case may be. In case the nominee is filing for pension, a valid Form-2 (Nomination Form) is required.

Download Provident Fund Form 20 – In the case of death of member, Form 20 is submitted by the nominee / family members to claim the member’s Provident Fund accumulations. A valid Death Certificate, Form-2, Birth Certificates of children are mandatory along with Form-20.

Download EPF Withdrawal Forms 31 – F-31 is known as Advance Form and is used for taking Loans, advances or withdrawals from your Provident Fund Account for various reasons like marriage, house building and or any medical problem etc.

Download Life Certificate Form or Non Re-Marriage Certificate Form – This simple certificate is a declaration which is mandatory to be submitted by every pensioner in the month of November each year to the bank or to the concerned RPFC Office for an assurance that you are alive and or you have not remarriage.

Download PF Form 5(I.F.) – This form is submitted by the nominee of the deceased member to be eligible to apply for the EPF dues of the deceased member who died while in service.

Advance Stamped Receipt Form (ASR) is usually used for claiming returned cheques issued from EPF India from your PF A/c for various reasons.

EPF India works on the principals and directions of the state. Employees’ Provident Fund Organization India has been constructed with a vision to safeguard the rights of employees. All the employees of the companies which fall under purview of the statute have to join and contribute in EPF compulsorily. EPFO India secures the rights of employees to work and get rewarded in a better way.

On 4^th March 1952 Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 came into existence. Later on many additions and alteration were done for enhancing the situation on employees. Employees’ Provident Fund Organization head office is located in New Delhi. EPFO is comprise of delineation of  Government of India , employees and employers. Union Labour Minister of India is the chairperson of EPF India. The Central Provident Fund Commissioner (HoD of EPFO) reports to Union Labour Minister of India.

EPFO confirms that within the available limits and capacity of state they make provision for people of the sate that they are getting their right to educate and work. EPFO also make sure that in case of old age, sickness and unemployment the people get help for healthcare and basic needs.

According to the provision any establishment which has 20 or more employees has to get registered with EPF India. All the employees working in the same organization have to register in EPF scheme. AT present both employer and employee have to contribute 12% of basic monthly salary towards compulsory Provident Fund.  So the total contribution is 24%. EPFO arrange compulsory Provident Fund, Accidental death Insurance and Pension on retirement.

According to the latest data EPFO covers approx. 5 Lac Establishments and has 40 million members (contributing and non contributing).  EPF India is a government organization takes care of all the beneficiaries covered under it in whole country. To conduct daily activities EPF offices has been set up on district level, Regional level and state level too.
